Julie is an award winning artist currently living in Brisbane. She is known for her realistic still life pictures, leaf paintings and landscapes in oil. Julie grew up on a small farm in Essex, England, where she kept many animals and was surrounded by beautiful countryside. She found much inspiration there and developed her love of the natural world, and from that came her desire to protect it.

Julie painted whenever she got the chance despite many obstacles and much discouragement. She was driven to focus on a different career path, which she achieved and Julie worked as a veterinary surgeon for many years. Nature is her major source of inspiration, and some of her favourite artists are Stubbs, Landseer, Munnings and Farquharson.

Julie has independently sourced her art training and has worked under Trevor Waugh and John Wilson. She has a strong understanding of the techniques of both watercolour and oil painting, she uses this knowledge to produce finest quality professionally finished paintings.

Her paintings are inspired by the world around her, including its ability to reduce (decay) and reuse precious nutrients to produce an ever more stunning natural environment. She captures the beauty around us as a reminder that small changes, when done by many people can make a huge impact on our planet’s health.

Julie has exhibited in various group shows where she has had a number of successes including winning the Lethbridge 10,000 Small Scale Art Award for 2014. She has exhibited paintings in England and Australia and completed a number of commissions. Her work is in many private collections in the U.K., and the U.S.A.. They are in both corporate and private collections in Australia.

Artist Statement

As an artist Julie revels in the perfection of nature and the harmony of the perfect circle from seed to compost back to seed.
The leaf paintings highlight the balance in nature, Julie holds up a mirror to modern society and how we might change how we live, mimicking mother nature, reuse, recycle and reduce our impact on our home planet, Earth.
Along with leaves collected from the footpaths around Bulimba and captured beautifully on canvas the presence of manmade objects show the use of raw materials taken from the ground and crafted into something enduring that can be reused, cherished and handed down through the generations.
